Meet our New Neighbors

November 7, 2016

The Salt River Segment design and construction team for the Fluor-managed Connect 202 Partners, LLC (C202P) took time to pet the turtles and watch the owl at the Country Gardens Charter School in Laveen, Arizona.

Looking up to watch the owl are Travis Legare, Salt River Construction Area Manager, and Rick Arnold, Field Engineer

The charter school is at the southwest corner of the new Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway and Southern Avenue, immediately west of the basin and south of the Southern interchange. This year, the school is home to 400 students who come from all over the Valley for the hands-on, life-science based curriculum. Special programs include the barnyard, horsemanship, a zoo lab and student run businesses. Seventy-percent of the students are from low income families.

Annual science, geology and history tours of the United States, rainforest and sea turtle studies in Costa Rica and marine biology seminars in Panama and Belize add to their unique learning program. This fall the school is opening a new building which will feature an aquarium, tide pool, water slide, theatre, science classrooms and kitchen. The new building will provide room for 200 new students.

“Our team is looking forward to getting more involved in community activities as we get to know our neighbors,” said Walter Lewis, III, Fluor’s C202P Project Director.
